Ministries
Discipleship | Care | Community Building
At St. John’s, ministry is more than what happens on Sunday morning… it’s how we live out our faith together each week. Through our Standing Ministries and Work/Project Teams, we worship, serve, care for one another, steward our resources, and grow as disciples of Jesus Christ. Each ministry has a unique focus, but together they form one unified mission rooted in faith, community, and the love of Christ. There’s a place for everyone to belong, serve, and grow here.
Kids Ministry (SonShine Kids' Club)
Programming is offered Sundays at 10:00 a.m. for children from birth through elementary school.
SonShine Kids' Club uses the Whirl curriculum — an engaging, story-driven program that meets children where they are and helps them build a lasting foundation of faith. Each session follows a four-part sequence:
Welcome — A warm opening activity to gather and connect
Hear — Watch the Whirl animated characters explore Bible stories in a way kids actually love
Respond — Apply the message through age-appropriate activities in their lesson leaflets
Launch — Scripture-based activities to take home and share with family
A fully staffed nursery is available for young children. All staff and volunteers working with children have completed extensive background checks and are trained under our Safe Sanctuary policy.
Youth Ministry - Middle & High School
Programming is offered Sunday mornings at 10:00 a.m. for middle school and high school students. Our youth program uses the re:form curriculum, a creative, question-driven approach that empowers students to explore faith on their own terms.
Each re:form session follows a three-part sequence:
Encounter — Watch an animated video that tackles real faith questions in a way that actually makes students laugh
Engage — Dig deeper through hands-on activities like doodling, building, and journaling
Respond — Share thoughts and ideas together in honest conversation
This is a space where questions are not just allowed… they're the whole point. All staff and volunteers are background checked and Safe Sanctuary trained.
Ministry Teams
Caring & Mission
No one at St. John's walks through hard times alone. The Ministry of Caring and Mission exists to make sure of that. Whether a member is facing a health challenge, an emotional struggle, or a spiritual crisis, this ministry coordinates the congregation's response — showing up, reaching out, and making sure people feel supported. Beyond our own walls, this ministry also directs our attention outward, connecting St. John's to the needs of our community, state, nation, and world through special offerings, mission projects, and partnerships with organizations doing meaningful work.
Worship & Hospitality
Sunday morning doesn't happen by accident. The Ministry of Worship and Hospitality works closely with Pastor Pat to plan and carry out every worship service — from the order of service to the music that fills the sanctuary. But this ministry's heart goes beyond logistics. It's built around a genuine desire to help every person who walks through our doors feel welcomed, known, and drawn closer to Jesus Christ. This team leads the charge in making St. John's a place where members and first-time visitors alike encounter something real — coordinating our full music program including choir, handbells, and special instrumentation, and making sure hospitality is woven into everything we do.
Administration
Faithful ministry requires faithful stewardship. The Ministry of Administration quietly keeps St. John's running — overseeing the care of our building, grounds, and cemetery, and ensuring that our financial resources are managed with integrity and transparency. This includes oversight of the annual budget, contributions, and investments, so that every dollar given to this congregation is handled thoughtfully and in service of our mission. It's not the most visible work, but it's essential — and the people who do it take it seriously.
Christian Formation
Growing in faith is a lifelong journey, and the Ministry of Christian Formation makes sure St. John's is a place where that growth can happen at every age and stage. This ministry plans, coordinates, and provides opportunities for children, youth, and adults to deepen their discipleship — through Sunday School, Bible study, special programs, and whatever else helps people move from simply attending church to genuinely living their faith. Formation isn't a one-time event; it's an ongoing commitment to becoming more fully who God calls us to be.
Project Teams
At the center of everything are the Work/Project Teams — ordinary members of the congregation rolling up their sleeves and doing the actual work of the church. These teams are where ideas become action, where ministry meets real life, and where members find their place in something larger than themselves. Every Standing Ministry depends on these teams to carry out its mission. Our goal is simple: that every member of St. John's finds at least one team where their gifts, their time, and their energy make a difference. There's a place for everyone — and we'd love to help you find yours.
We'd love to walk alongside you as you discover the love of God and the call that Jesus Christ has for your life. No matter where you are on your journey, there's a place for you here.
